About the Airport

Nuremberg Airport is the one that you will fly to with us. It is located around 5 kilometers north of the city center of Nuremberg.

Nuremberg Airport

Inaugurated in 1955, the Nuremberg airport is the international airport of the region and the second-busiest airport in Bavaria after the airport in Munich. It reached passenger traffic of 4.5 million, making it one of the ten busiest airports in Germany. There is a variety of food options to pick from: a supermarket, fast-food restaurants, a bakery, cafeterias, bars, and canteens. You will have the opportunity to taste the local food here as well as some standard options. There is a free Wi-Fi connection available in all parts of the airport.

Transport from Nuremberg Airport to City Center

There are a few ways to reach the airport from the city center. The most convenient one would seem to be the train – it takes 12 minutes of traffic-free and comfortable time to get straight to the core of the city. If you are not a fan of the train you can still choose to travel by taxi, which is longer and more expensive though (~20 minutes, ~EUR20)

As for the car rental, there are some opportunities available at the airport, but you can also take care of it in advance of your trip.

Public Transport

In Nuremberg, public tranport is very easy and useful. There are many options for city trasport such as buses, subway and taxis to get around in the city. To use the public tranportation you have tickets. You can obtain these tickets from vending machines,at sale points or online.

If you are not on a budget, then you should find something in the city center. Otherwise, some distant locations will be just fine, as public transport in the city is well-developed.

It is recommended to take care of your hotel reservation in advance.

  • Bretzel: Elsewhere known as Pretzel, you will see this super tasty and salty bread on every corner of Nuremberg’s streets.

  • Roasted Almonds: If you happen to be in Nuremberg during the very famous Christmas markets, you will be surrounded by the smell of delicious, salty roasted almonds. There are many variations of that tasty snack, be sure to try all of them!
  • Griesklöschensuppe: This beef soup with semolina dumplings is said to be an excellent cure for all kinds of mild diseases.

Nuremberg has several historical attractions. Below, some of must-seen attractions of Nuremberg are listed:

Kaiserburg Castle

The region's most fabulous castle, Kaiserburg, was one of the most important buildings of its kind, the forefront of defense, in the Holy Roman Empire, dating its origins to the 11th century. If you decide to take a walk uphill, you will be rewarded not only by the magnificent structures of this fortress but also with a great panoramic view of the old town that you will experience as the history speaks to you with the walls of Kaiserburg Castle.

Weissgerbergasse

Take a relaxing walk down Weissgerbergasse to feel the spirit of Nuremberg. With Albrecht Dürer’s House on one end, it is fully preserved, untouched by the horrors of war. The neat buildings that you will pass as you walk along will try to remind you of the history of the city.

Nazi Party Rally Grounds

This is one of these places that are worth visiting, if only for the sole reason to remind ourselves of the mistakes that we made in the past so that we hopefully don't repeat them in the future. It is not the most exciting site that you will ever visit, but the value of seeing it lies elsewhere.

St. Lorenz Church

St. Lorenz Church, a magnificent Lutheran gothic-style church, very well preserved and beautifully restored, will amaze you with its grandiosity and will attract you with its personality. The art inside of the church is astounding, and you will be fascinated by some of them, even if you are not an art freak in your everyday life.

Albrecht Dürer’s House

See the house that the great German artist occupied five centuries ago. Even though the house bears little resemblance to how it looked like in Dürer’s times, there are some very lovely expositions there that are worth seeing.
