The history of the airport dates back to  the pre-war years. However the construction of the current building was completed in 1954. Therefore it showcases features of Stalinist architecture of the 50s. Although the popularity of the airport relatively decreased after the fall of the Soviet Union, it went through reconstruction by 1995 and opened up international flights. The airport served about 600.000 people in 2016. Currently, it continues to be an important transport hub in the region hosting the major airline companies around the world.

Transport from Kharkiv International Airport to the City Center

The airport is very well connected through extensive network of public transport. You can take the trolley bus number 5, number 115e or bus number 119 to stop at Prospekt Haharina metro station and reach the airport from there quite easily.  Otherwise you can take minibuses number 152e and 255e that goes directly to the airport and departs from Akademika Barabashova metro station. You need to get off at Romashkina stop to reach the airport.

Alternatively, you can take a taxi or utilize car rental services offered by Pegasus Airlines in order to make your journey more comfortable.

Public Transport

Utilizing the metro would be the most suitable option to get around the city. The city has three metro lines identified with red, blue and green colors. If you are staying close to the city center, you can easily discover the city on foot.
