About the Airport

Almaty International Airport (IATA: ALA, ICAO: UAAA) is approximately 15 km away from the city center. It is  the biggest airport in Kazakhstan.

Almaty Airport was built in 1935. Previously it was part of the Kazakh Department of Civil Aviation. After the renovations and reorganizations, it is called Alma-Ata Airport in 1991 and run as an independent corporation. Later it is renamed to JSC Almaty International Airport.

 

Transport from Kazakhstan Almaty International Airport to the City Center

Several buses are used for the city transfer. Bus number 3 runs to connect the city center to the airport, 24/7. Buses numbered 79, 92, 86, and 106 run between the airport and city center. These buses also stop near the train station Almaty-2, the name of the station is Sayakhat. You can also use taxis and car rental companies for your transfer. Pegasus allows you to make an online reservation to rent a car.  

Public Transport

City transportation is provided through buses, trolleybus, metro, tram, taxi, and bike. “Onay” transportation pass is utilized for public transportation.

There are varied options in Almaty, depending on your budget you can select the most suitable one. There are many hotels in touristic areas, such as Medeu, Frunze, and Gorny Gigant. Making your hotel reservation in advance will help you in many aspects. You can save money and time, as well.

 In Almaty, the winters are freezingly cold and snowy. The summers are warm and dry. All over the year, the temperature varied between -10.6°C to 29.5°C. It is rarely below -18°C or above 34.5°C. The hot season is from mid-May until mid-September. The hottest months are July and August. The cold season is from the last week of November to the first week of March, The coldest month is January. Mid-June to early September is the best season to visit the city. However, if you are interested in winter sports, then snowy months will be a better option.
